Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.
3 John 1:2 NIV
All May Go Well
The panelphysician.ca website gives some advice to immigrants on how to do well in Canada. It gives this advice: “Familiarizing yourself with Canadian customs, history, languages, and social etiquette is an excellent way to help you feel more at home once you’ve arrived in the country. You can join local groups, attend events, and ask for advice or help from neighbors to establish trust and relationships within your new community. Canada’s job market is thriving, but it’s important to know how to network effectively.”

Sometimes we think of the apostles as super-human, only concerned about spiritual things and focused on where people are in their relationship with Jesus and wearing halos. The reality is that they are human beings like us, walking closely with Jesus, but dealing with the same temptations, illness, and foibles as the rest of us. So, it shouldn’t surprise us that they would give a normal greeting to friends. This is the case with John when he writes, in 3 John 1:2: “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” This is a personal and caring greeting, just as we would write to a dear friend. He begins by wishing them good health. Jesus, after all, healed many and told us to pray for our daily bread. Our Lord cares deeply about our physical well-being. John also wishes his friend well – a blessing we should share with all we love. Take time today to send loving greetings to a friend.
