About us

Our vision: because the world needs the Living Word of God more than anything else.

Our mission

We are called by God to provide Scriptures and training worldwide, so that people prepared by the Holy Spirit will be brought into relationship with Christ and His Church.

But what sets us apart? Not just sending North Americans on the ground to preach God’s word: We mentor local believers to instil this powerful message within their communities. In fact, our ministry relies on three distinct parts working together to build a steady foundation for lasting change.

The best people to share Jesus are those who live and breathe the local culture. Speaking the native tongue and walk the same tough roads as their neighbours – these influential champions become mentors for family, friends and neighbours to grow movements that transform generations to come.

Our work is inspired by our faith

Bible:
God gave us His Holy Word as a timeless and steadfast guide to everyday life. And still, the Bible is just as infallible and divinely inspired as it was thousands of years ago. We trust the Bible as the modern day authority for our faith and our actions.

Truth: Jesus Christ’s saving grace is available to all people everywhere. He shed his blood on the cross so that all who are lost may be found.

Trinity: God is one, eternally existing in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Jesus: Christ Jesus is our constant advocate and mediator. Furthermore, He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and crucified on the cross.

Love: This is the centre of all Christian life. Walking in Jesus’ light starts with a right relationship with God and extends to a heartfelt concern for the spiritual and social needs of all humanity.

Kingship: Our purpose on the earth is to serve the Lord and fulfil His divine plan for our lives.

Resurrection: Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, rose from the dead and ascended to Heaven. Finally, He will return once again.

Frequently asked questions

As all peoples, loved and cherished by God, we need to live in love, compassion, and humility with each other in our broken world, according to the truths found in God’s Holy Word, the Bible. When we fall short, whether it is by omission or intent, we must confess to God and each other, and constantly strive to do better.

…for we are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28b NIV) and we are all called to “be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” (Ephesians 4:2-6)

As believers, we are called by God to reflect the transforming love of Christ to all peoples, everywhere.

As a ministrywe are called by God to provide Scriptures and training worldwide, so that people prepared by the Holy Spirit will be brought into relationship with Christ and His Church.

What exactly does Bible League Canada do?2024-02-16T11:59:41-05:00

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we equip and empower believers of Christ in nearly 50 countries to become local champions to transform their own communities. These local champions will reach out to their communities through one or a combination of four different ways depending on the context of the countries we work in.

  • Starting New Churches Ministry: Training and equipping local champions (church planters) with Scriptures and discipleship resources.
  • Children’s Ministry: Providing a safe learning environment for children in regions of deep poverty to learn about the love of Jesus.
  • Adult Bible-based Ministry: Teaching illiterate men and women to read and write using Bible-based literacy material.
  • Persecuted Church ministry: Partnering with Christians in countries where persecution denies them the freedom to worship.

Everywhere we work, there are three things that always go together:  the Word of God, local believers and training.

How many countries do you work in?2024-01-11T13:33:37-05:00

Our work spans to nearly 50 countries and across five continents. See here for details of region profiles and specific ministries.

Where is the greatest need?2024-01-11T13:37:21-05:00

All people who do not know Christ as their Saviour are in need of the Good News of Jesus Christ. Thus, all areas are in need of the Scriptures and someone who knows the culture in order to share the Gospel and disciple the communities for the Kingdom of God. You can see our current projects here.

Are you associated with a particular denomination?2021-04-05T20:38:07-04:00

No, we are an interdenominational charitable organization.

What percentage of every dollar you receive is allocated to administration?2025-01-03T14:36:24-05:00

Bible League Canada is committed to keeping administrative costs as low as possible. We are able to keep our costs low because of the hard work of Bible League Canada staff and the partnerships in the countries where ministry happens. 80% of total expenditures in fiscal year 2023-24 went towards international ministry, 10% was spent on Administration, and 10% on Fundraising. A full report of our most recent financials can be found in the Annual Report, located here.

What is your relationship with Bible League International?2021-04-05T20:39:31-04:00

In 2007, in order to meet CRA regulations, Bible League Canada separated from Bible League International. We are a totally separate ministry, with no corporate ties. We are uniquely Canadian, with a Canadian board and staff. Recently BLC and BLI have entered into a joint ministry relationship for specific projects.

Are you the same organization as the World Home Bible League?2021-04-05T20:40:09-04:00

Yes. In 1960 our name was the Canadian Home Bible League. In 1984, we changed our name to the World Home Bible League of Canada. In 1992, our name was changed to The Bible League of Canada. Presently we are known as Bible League Canada.

Can I work for you as a missionary?2024-01-11T11:42:56-05:00

Bible League Canada does not send North Americans to do work in other countries. We partner with Christians living in the countries themselves to do the work of Starting New Churches (church planting), children’s ministry and adult literacy in their own countries. We’ve found this to be a much more effective way to evangelize in nations where the church is strong and leadership is in place. Working with national Christians who give their time and resources to reach their fellow citizens with the Good News of Jesus Christ we believe is the most impactful way to impact a community or nation. Your prayer support and any financial gifts that you are able to give are certainly appreciated.

Where are the Bibles that you place printed?2023-01-09T11:13:00-05:00

Bibles and resource materials used in ministry programs are usually printed as close as possible to the regions where they are needed. This is not only most economical but also supports the region where ministry is happening.

Since all your work is done through partnerships, why should I send my money to you? Wouldn’t it make more sense to give it directly to the ministry working in the field?2022-01-24T19:53:00-05:00

Bible League Canada has spent years cultivating partnerships with experienced ministries and directors who have a thorough understanding of the country and culture they work in. By raising funds for the work they are doing, they can concentrate on what they do best: reach people for Christ.

Bible League Canada, through your generosity, does what we do best: find, build, and fund extraordinary partnerships that align with our, and your, vision for ministry.

I get way too much mail from you, and I won’t want my donation dollars going towards expensive mailings. Can’t you cut down on your mail?2024-01-11T11:33:11-05:00

The mailings we send to our donors are an important way of letting them know about the ministry of Bible League Canada and to inspire people to continue to give to the ministry work. Funds we receive in response to the mail we send greatly outweighs the cost of sending these appeals, so we think it’s worthwhile to keep sending mail. You’re always welcome to ask us to reduce the number of mailings sent to you or opt-in to receive our mailings by email.

Can you please send Bibles to a ministry I know of in a particular country?2024-01-11T11:30:56-05:00

We get these kinds of requests from all over the world.

All of our work is done through partner ministries. According to CRA regulations, unless we, as an organization, have an existing missions agreement, we cannot send Bibles or money outside of Canada to another ministry or person.

However, you, as an individual, are able to purchase Bibles and send them to the person or ministry you wish to bless.
