God is jealous for us.
This may sound strange, as we tend to think of jealousy as a negative trait, but it is not when it comes to God. God’s jealousy is one of unconditional love as He wants the best for His children.
He is jealous for me,
Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of His wind and mercy.
God’s jealousy is found in many ways throughout the Bible, but it can be seen in Exodus 34 when Moses met with God on Mount Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments. God made a covenant with Moses while he was with Him on the mountain, and said to Moses, “Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.”
The Lord showed his jealousy of the Israelites when they lost sight of God after Moses led the people out of Egypt. The people decided to create an idol, a gold bull, and worship it instead of worshipping God. God told Moses to go back to the people, and stop them from worshipping an idol, because God wanted them only to worship and praise Him. He was jealous of their attention, as it was Him who delivered them from Egypt, and Him who loves them with an overwhelming love!
God explicitly says that He does not want us to worship any idols. His jealousy has been described as a burning fire, intense and passionate as He wants His children to place their trust and faith in Him!
As we go about our daily lives and walk through difficult circumstances, we need to remember that God knows all of our worries and concerns. He wants His children to look to Him for guidance. When we do, God delights in the faith that we place in Him!
His jealousy is one of love, not of distrust. Give your attention to God and worship Him! He is the only one who will, “make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:6.
