Words From the Heart for Friday, May 2, 2025

Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Psalm 90:12 NIV

Count Our Days

A StatsCan study uses the 2015 General Social Survey on Time Use to examine the time spent by Canadian seniors aged 65 and over on various activities. 91% of senior women (aged 65 and over) engaged in unpaid household work on a typical day, compared with 83% of senior men. When they engaged in unpaid household work, senior women also spent more time on such activities (3.5 hours a day) than senior men did (2.9 hours). About three-quarters of men and women aged 65 and over engaged in active pursuits such as exercising, socializing and using technology.

In preparation for today’s Words from the Heart I completed the death clock. It’s a website that makes a prediction, based on your body mass index, some lifestyle questions, and birth date about the date you most likely will die. It says I should live until October 18, 2055. None of us knows, of course, when we will die, but the Bible gives us some good advice about how we should live in the meantime. Psalm 90:12 says, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” We never know when we get up in the morning if this is going to be our last day. We have all lost friends unexpectedly. Every time we do so, it makes us realize that this life has an end date, and we would be wise to live in such a way that honours God and loves others. This is how we gain a heart of wisdom. How will you live wisely today?

These have been words from the heart.
