“As a mother comforts her child,
so will I comfort you;
and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.”

A Mother’s Comfort

In 2024, The Royal Canadian Legion named Mrs. Maureen Anderson of Oromocto, New Brunswick, as that year’s National Silver Cross Mother. Maureen symbolized all Silver Cross Mothers when she placed a wreath at the National War Memorial in Ottawa on Remembrance Day. “We honour Maureen and her family’s tremendous sacrifice,” says Berkley Lawrence, Dominion President. “Her presence comforts all Silver Cross Mothers and families, her strength gives us all strength to accept her great loss, and her story reminds us to never forget.” Mrs. Anderson’s two sons, Ron and Ryan, were both members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and both were Army Sergeants.

There is no comfort like that a mother offers. When we are little, and life gets scary or uncertain, we know to run to mom, who will take us in her arms where we find safety. It is only proper that on Mother’s Day 2025 we take time to honour our mothers and others in our lives who are moms. The Lord meant this to be and uses a mother’s comfort to help us understand just how much He loves us. In Isaiah 66:13 we read, “’As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.’” As we live our lives, we all need someone to comfort us. As adults, life can be confusing and even frightening. Our Creator is active in this world, and He calls us to Himself for the comfort and safety we so often need. God has given us a wonderful promise here – like a loving mother, He will comfort us. Run to Him today.
